The place and the history

During your stay you can reach either the sea of Lerici or Tellaro or Marinella, or the Cinque Terre which are now a universally known destination, or Portovenere beautiful pearl of our sea, or even Tuscany with its cities of art, as well as the Luni herself with the remains of her Roman Amphitheater; stop in the relaxation and quiet in the middle of the redwoods and sunbathe on the beautiful lawn, or read in the shade of the foliage, in the calm, silence and tranquility of the place. In addition to all these beauties, a wine is also born in this area that is becoming increasingly important on national and non-national markets, such as Vermentino: it is a wine with very ancient origins, even at the time of the Maritime Republics, when Genoa, which dominated the Tyrrhenian, spread over its territories principles, all its customs and knowledge. Among these, the Vermentino vine which, as proof of what has been said, is particularly widespread throughout the “Genoese basin” which goes from Liguria, to Tuscany, to Sardinia as well as to Corsica and the French Riviera. In this company this wine summarizes all the best characteristics and peculiarities.

In the early Middle Ages the area was under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Luni, it extended from the borders of the Diocese of Genoa to those of the Diocese of Lucca. The Via Francigena, which accompanied pilgrims on their way to and from the city of Rome for all destinations of the empire, crossed it completely, and is still signposted for short routes between the ruins of villages and castles, which are numerous everywhere, testimony to the ancient history of our places. These ancient villages were specially built on the heights to better optically control the access roads on which hostile armies often ventured, and prepare in time to defend the fortified city. Arcola is one of these countries, dates back to around the year 1000 and is a pleasant discovery for anyone wishing to visit it.
