In San Gimignano, Pietraserena occupies the two sides of the hill located just opposite in the direction of North-North East. In 1966 it was small in size, about 7 hectares, then up it merged neighboring and / or neighboring particles until today it reaches the extension of about 40 hectares, of which 30 are vineyards and the remaining olive grove and coppice. Being in the heart of the Municipality of San Gimignano, the main grape variety at first was naturally Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first wine to obtain the doc in Italy. Subsequently Sangiovese was planted, the main grape variety of Tuscany and Italy, declined in many different clones, from the most traditional and ancient to Sangiovese Grosso which gave birth, in other areas, to wines of absolute international prestige, and which also in our company gives life to our most representative “crus”, the Caulio and the Poggio al Vento. Many names divide and delimit the individual vineyards, Arca, Quercia, Casine, Ripida, Poggio, Ventaglio, Del Sole, del Moggi, Vigna Nuova, Piano di Fata, Pancole and Lignite, from which we draw the grapes and which are vinified separately. Once the wine is obtained, the various blends are made, which have always characterized our bottles.
